Add an Internal Link

An “Internal Link” is a link that goes to another page within your website.

By default, it will be set to linking to an internal page or file.
Click on “Choose File, Page or Link”

  4. This box will open. There are three ways, you can find the desired link. You will see your "Recent" pages by default, can click on "Browse" to see all pages, or start to type the page name in the search box.

    Choose page
  5. Leave “Anchor” blank.
  6. Target: If you are linking to a web page, leave target as “Same Window."
Select “New Window” if you are linking to a PDF or Word document.
  7. Leave "Title" blank and ignore “Class."
  8. Click on “Insert”.
Add an External Link

The process to link to an external link is similar to adding an internal link.

Select the text you want to link and click on the “Insert/Edit Link” button.

It will default to an internal link. Be sure to change it to external.

We recommend opening the page to which you wish to link in another browser tab so you can be sure the page works. Once you have the external page open in another tab, copy the URL and paste it into the "Link" field.

The “Text to display” field is the text that will be linked. You can change that here if you like.

Click on “OK”.

Note: If you enter a URL that begins with "http://" rather than "https://", a prompt will suggest the link is changed to begin with "https://" Do NOT do that. The page you are linking to may not display properly.

Link to a PDF

Before you link to a PDF, you must upload it.

Linking to a PDF follows steps identical to linking to a web page, but change the "Target" field to "Open in a new window." The "Text to display" should always include [PDF] so the user knows that it will not open as web page.

Add a link to an email address

If you are adding an email address, simply typing the address and following it by pressing the space bar will automatically create a link.

If you want to have something other than the email address as the link – for example, "Email us" – highlight the words you want to link, click on the "Insert/Edit Link" button and then select the “External” checkbox.

In the link field, type "mailto:" followed by the email address. For example, mailto:j.doe@uwinnipeg.ca
