Creating a New Page
To create a new page:
- Click on "Add Content"
- Then select your website name (in this case, the current website is called "Cascade User Guide") and then click on "Standard Page"
- Note the folder into which the page is set to be placed. The default folder is the root folder of your site, but if this page is part of another section, browse to that folder.
(The example below shows how to navigate to a new folder, titled "Web Page Basics," from an original folder, titled "Cascade User Guide.")
If you find you have placed your page in the wrong section (or folder), find the page in the Site Content column of the Cascade editor and drag and drop it into the correct folder.
New Page Elements
When creating a new page, a number of elements will be required in order to publish the page. Find below an explanation of each of the elements.
Display Name and Title:
The Display Name and Title should be short and should both say the same thing – for example ‘How to Apply."
The Display Name is the breadcrumb text. If you selected “Feature on left side navigation," the “Display Name” will also appear in your navigation on the left and link to your page.
The Feature on left side navigation radio button defaults to “No” but should be “Yes” if you want your page to show up on the left side and your site uses Dynamic Navigation.
(Most sites, but not all, use Dynamic Navigation, which means your page will automatically appear in the left-hand navigation once you select “Yes." You will be told which your site uses in your Cascade Training Session.)
Note: If you will not be publishing your page, do not choose to feature it on the left-hand navigation until you are ready to publish otherwise the link will appear on your other pages but will not work until you publish the page.
Show Featured Content below Content Block – Leave at “No”
Slideshow – Leave at “No” (Contact websuggest@uwinnipeg.ca if you would like a slideshow.)
Slideshow Images – Most pages do not use slideshows, so this field can be ignored. If you would like a slideshow, please contact Marnie Loewen in Communications.
Three-Panel Slider – This is for your features and, in most cases, "No" should be selected. Separate documentation will be provided for that.
Accordion Content – Leave at "No" unless you wish to add an accordion.
Main Content – Add your main content
Once these fields have been configured, you have created a basic web page. The page can now be submitted by clicking the three vertical dots in the top right-hand corner of the editor, found next to the Preview Draft button. Select "Check Content & Submit"
Note: If this webpage is to be the main page for a website section, it must be renamed "index." To do so, click "More" in the top-right corner of the page, select "Rename," and change the "System Name" to "index."
