Admission Requirements
To apply to UW TCP applicants must have:
- A completed university bachelor degree is required.
- For currently enrolled UW students, a successful competition of at least 45 credit hours of education in any program of the University of ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV is required.
- Non-native speakers of English must prove proficiency in English by submitting official documentation for one of the below English proficiency tests before they commence the program. English language tests older than two years will not be considered.
- IELTS 7 academic overall and no lower than 6.5 on each band.
- Common European Framework: C1
- High school graduation from a high school in Canada, including minimum English Grade 12 score of 70%.
- Completion of an undergraduate degree from an English-speaking university, conditional on (1) meeting with the coordinator, and (2) review of application essay.
- Successful completion of Academic Level 5 of the University of ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV's English Language Program with the passing grade of 96 A+ in all the courses and conditional on (1) meeting with the coordinator, and (2) review of an application essay.
Required Documents
Please include the following documents in your application package:
- Completed application form with required fees.
- Completed registration form. *Note: If you are a returning student, you only need to complete the registration form for the upcoming session.
- A one-page essay on the following: What experiences/education have you had that make you want to pursue this certification? What do you hope to do after completing this program and attaining your TESL Certificate?
- Official transcripts of all post-secondary institutions. A transcript is considered to be official if it is submitted in one of two ways:
1) sent directly from the institution where a degree was received;
2) if it is brought to the ELP registration office in a sealed envelope.
*Note: We do not require a transcript from current or past University of ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV students. - For non-native speakers of English, official documentation that the language requirement has been met (see requirements above).
- An academic or professional reference letter. This should speak to your characteristics that would allow you to be successful both in this intensive TESL Certificate program, as well as in the ESL/EAL profession.
